Freshwaters Prawns
Medium-sized Freshwater Prawns are easily available and ready-to-eat food, whether peeled and cleaned with the head and tail removed. Prawns are juicy and tasty, rich in proteins, omega-3 fatty acids, and antioxidants beneficial for the body. Freshwater prawns have a wet texture and a gentle, sweet taste compared to other seafood. Prawns are delicious when served with curries, appetizers, or biryani to make them more fleshy and boneless.
Nutritional Properties
Freshwater prawns have Vitamins B-6, B-12, and Niacin, which help produce energy, build muscle, and refill blood cells. Prawns contain iron and significantly reduce iron deficiencies, especially in women. Prawns are also a source of selenium, an effective antioxidant for maintaining cells in the body. Prawns also contain Zinc, which is important for the immune system and for building strong bones.
Storage Guidelines
Freshwater Prawns can be refrigerated for 2-3 days between 0 and 4ºC. It’s best to leave them in their shells, place them in a single-layer tray, cover them tightly with plastic wrap, and store them in the fridge. If you want to freeze Prawns, ask the retailer or vendor whether prawns have already been frozen and thawed. If in doubt, check the freezer’s temperature.
